Does Flagging "Printed-Not Printed" Annoy You?

Post by mekman1721 »

When I close/print/pay invoices and must hit Yes to confirm is there an opt out button? I understand and use the redundant ability to prevent xxtra prints in less used forms/reports.
When closing an invoice and paying why must I respond when that is the purpose of that button?
When I have printed an RO (repair order) why must I acknowledge that its printed... can it be logged where I can look it up (if I care?)
The act of printing should post as "printed" on W.I.P. screen!
Why the question about printing/posting? can it not be logged and found when searched for? NOT CONFIRMED EVERY TIME ITS DONE? Why is there a button to do it IF I must always verify I want to perform an action when I choose that function?

Welcome to the Forum.

No, there is not.
when I have printed an RO (repair order) why must I acknowledge that its printed..
With RO's, the marked as printed status changes it's behavior behind the scenes, mostly where parts can be ordered and tracked properly through the PO system. You can bypass this step by having them marked as printed automatically in setup. Go to Setup>Shop Data>Screen View and place a check next to Mark All RO's As Approved/Printed.
Why is there a button to do it IF I must always verify I want to perform an action when I choose that function?
I do not speak for Mitchell1, but in general, software designers place these confirmation windows so users make fewer mistakes. Sometimes they're a pain, but once in a while it saves my butt. :D
does flagging "printed-not printed" annoy you too?
Not in the slightest. I'm very familiar with the program flow and it's like second nature to me.

I get the box all the time. Does it drive me nuts? Well, many things drive me nuts, I guess this to me is just one more mouse click that I have to do that isnt needed. I am use to running an invoice, click paid, enter check number, hit mouse button 4 times, or is that 8? Would be nice to not have it though.

There is significance to 'marking as printed' in the following ways:

Mark RO as printed
1. Changes parts to Committed status
2. Populates the Time In field

Mark INV as printed
1. Populates the Completed date field

The system currently wants to provide an option if the user doesn't want to mark the INV as completed just yet.

Shouldn't it be obvious to the computer that when I am Posting/Paying an invoice that it should trigger the date? And I guess if I am marking the invoice paid it should be completed. I can't think of a reason I would pay/post an invoice before it is complete. Once the customer pays isn't it a little to late to change the invoice?

Quite possibly; on the other hand I have heard more than once that a shop feels the need to control that. ("but I don't want it marked Completed until Monday, yadda yadda yadda")

When you click on mark invoice as printed does that put the work completed date?

We had a issue where there was a rebate that needed to be done by a certain date, very close friend of ours so I had to try and figure it all out for him to have the invoice mailed off. So he came back to pay a couple days after the rebate ended.

Example: The job/invoice needed to be done by 7/15/2015, but didn't need to be paid by that date. So if he came in on 7/19/2015 how do you get the invoice to state the work was completed on 7/15/2015 when the date is 7/19/2015?

To meet such a deadline - it should have been 'marked as printed' on 7-15.
