1999 Ford F350 - Grinding Noise

Post by JOHN CRESCENZO »

I HAVE A 99 FORD F-350 SUPERDUTY DUMP TRUCK 7.3L DIESEL,AUTOMATIC TRANS.

IT HAS A HEAVY GRINDING NOISE AT IDLE BUT IT GOES AWAY ON ACCELERATION? SOME MORE INFORMATION THE NOISE IS AT IDLE ONLY ANG GOES AWAY COMPLETELY ON ACCELRATION.I THINK THE NOISE IS COMING MORE FROM THE TRANS THAN THE MOTOR.I DONT THINK THE PTO HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT.

is the noise at idle while the vehicle is stopped or idle rolling? does the noise just quit on accel or decrease as speed builds or rpms go higher?

What area does the noise seem to be coming from?

Lets assume the PTO has no effect on the noise whether it is engaged on not?
Uncle PETA said I could come back.
