Inventory With Serial #s?
I could not find anything in a search. I have many parts with the same part #'s but have serial numbers as well that i need to keep track of in the customer's repair order. Only way i can find of doing it is separate parts but this makes checking sales a bit annoying. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Forum.
How about placing the serial number in the description field of the part after it is placed on the RO?

That could work, but then i would have to keep a list of the serial numbers. Possibly in the memo section of the part in inventory.

The other way would be to have each their own number. You could use the Part Number Search report with a partial match wildcard to get information on sales if needed. You'll need to decide which is more important; the part number serial number tracking or overall sales tracking.

Re: Invetory W/ Serial Numbers
HcTruckRepair,
I apologize in advance if I'm not following exactly why you'd need to track the serial numbers. I would think you'd want to add a note item on the order with the serial number though. If a customer came back, you could look up the RO in history and see the serial number there. I don't see why you'd have to maintain a separate list of serial numbers.

Maybe something like this:
Store them in part number Comment field and then edit the part record to cut & paste the selected serial # to Size field before transferring part to the repair order each time. (if you're not using the Size field already)

Re: Inventory With Serial #s?
I think i will just have to add the serial numbers in the comments field. The reason why i just don't write them in the invoice is that my technicians have a issue with losing the box or ripping the serial number by accident.
