Has Anybody ran into this problem:
Have a 2009 Dodge Journey, check engine light came on and the Gas cap light has come on - scanned before (Codes PO452 & PO456) Evap leak - Installed a new Gas Cap, Check light went out but gas cap light stayed on, got back rescanned same codes came back - completed smoke test on Evap system, Evap Canister was leaking badly and replaced, check engine light went out no more leaks in the system but the Gas Cap light has stayed on and will not go out. Have been able to find zero information on it

was the gas cap from the dealer? i've found that the after market caps especially for chrystler products don't cut the mustard.

Yes I got a gas cap right from chrsyler, because we have ran into that as well

This vehicle uses the new ESIM system instead of the NVLD method. No leak detection pump....it relies on vacuum. Fuel cap light means a medium or large leak detected on one trip. This matures to a real leak code after 3 trips rather than the old 2 trip method. You may have a leak that shows on vacuum only.

So we need to look for a vaccum leak, in the area of the gas tank, gas cap etc...?

Possibly. Did you run the ESIM forced test with the scanner? This will tell you if the problem is present or not. Does your smoke tester include a flow gauge? Was there flow?

well i hope its not to late i didnt ck. the forum till this morning,in cking with dealer connect i found a new tsb for p0452 which basicly has you replace the evap purge switch which is stuck closed im having trouble with my adobe reader when i fix it ill post the tsb for you im sure theyll have test to confirm. im also not sure if the switch is seperate from the esim or not.

These have a an extremely high failure rate on liberty's as well... I believe if you look up the TSB if will guide you right through the diag for the ESIM ( which is covered under fed emissions warranty)

If it uses the same ESIM as a Liberty (which knowing Chrysler, it is), the switch in in the ESIM.

This is an old thread. Has there been a fix?

I know it was old, but i figured while I had a decent internet connection I would throw in my 2 pennies

replace the ESIM takes 5 minutes and costs about $9.00. Its a reed switch that goes bad and sends a false signal to the PCM. We change em left and right.

this also falls under federal emission warranty and should be covered for repl at $0.00
