WAHT'S THE BEST WAY TO IDENTIFY THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "AIR IN HEAD" AND "AIR IN MANIFOLD" FOR THE 4.9L ENGINE? MY TECH IS OUT AND I'M TRYING TO GET THIS MOTOR IDENTIFIED FOR REPLACEMENT.

The best way is visual. See where the air manifold is attached. One model they are screwed into the manifold and the other screws directly into the head.This makes a difference when ordering an engine because you don't want extra holes in the head if you've got a manifold injected unit. It's very loud that way. LOL.

I agree, I'm not sure if the dealer would be able to tell you that info, especially on one that old. I just had a 95 that I was trying to find out the midship gas tank size, called the dealer and they said it was to old. The air tube like ric said will either go into the head, or into the manifold.

at a glance if you've never dealt with this before it may look like the air tubes are in the manifold when in actuality they're in the head.
